PLUMBING MAINTENANCE TIPS Toilets •Avoid using in-tank cleaning products. They will void a toilet’s warranty, as they can destroy parts and cause water leaks that may lead to property damage. •Check for leaks. Rusty streaks in your bowl can indicate a leak in your tank. Periodically check and replace your flapper to make sure you have a good seal. •Slow Flush? You may have lime or hard-water build up in under your bowl rim. Empty your bowl and pour a de-liming product in your overflow valve. Let sit overnight if you can. Drains •Save $ use Bleach! Beach works great on dissolving hair clogs in tubs and sinks. Make sure you do not let the bleach hit your surface of the tub or sink drain, use a funnel to pour down if you can. Even better- Add a bit once a month to sinks and tubs to keep your drains clean. Showerheads/ Faucets •Plugged up? Clean your faucet aerators and showerheads with Vinegar. Let faucet aerator sit in a cup of vinegar overnight. Hang a plastic bag with Vinegar secured with rubber bands around your showerhead to soak it if you can’t remove. Water Heaters •Keep it clean. Flush tank by using a garden hose, hook hose to boiler drain at base of heater and run to a floor drain or sink. Open the valve and let it run until the water runs clear. Overtime sediment can settle in the tank and hinder performance. Garbage Disposers •Clean is efficient. Clean your disposer with ice cubes and lemon or orange rinds. You’ll sharpen your blades a bit and give your drain a clean fresh scent. •Avoid certain items. Starchy items (rice, potatoes, bread) will turn into paste and clog the drain. Avoid putting coffee grounds down, they attract grease and will slow your drain. •Less is more.
